That time of the year is upon us, as our annual homecoming event is right around the corner. I wanted to take this time to update you all on a few items that will be coming up on our agenda at our alumni meeting, which I hope you all will find time to attend this year.
First, I want to formally welcome our new members into the alumni chapter. These members being Andrew Brown, Stew Deen, Mark Hamrick, Brett Haro, Kevin Mathews, Dylan Pair, Justin Roland, Chad Schultz, Jeff Songer, Ryan Sotolongo, Paul Stafiej, Jerry Ursin, Nick Ursin, and Zack Wilcox. Every one of them was a great asset to the active chapter and I know they will all be a valuable part to our alumni chapter.
Second, to celebrate Homecoming, I would like to invite you all to a dinner on Friday, October 21st, to relax and catch up with brothers. This dinner will take place at Brownstones at 7:00 pm. We’re reserving the second floor; so to ensure that we have the restaurant prepared, please respond to me by email or phone by September 25th. The following day, we will have our annual Homecoming meeting for alumni on October 22nd at 10:00 am, which I hope you all can attend.
The meeting will have several points that will require a vote from the alumni chapter, so I would like to address those points to ensure that everyone is prepared for a smooth meeting. First, our executive council will have positions to be filled this year, as Johnny Kochtitzky and Wade Walker have decided to pass down their positions. Jerry Ursin, our Treasurer, would like to step up as Vice-President, meaning that two positions are open. While I’ve talked to members that are interested, please call me if you are interested in running for any position. We will also need a vote for the president and Vice-President positions, if you would like to run for either then please also contact me.
We have also created several events and projects, and would like to discuss these at the annual meeting. Below are a few items on the agenda that the alumni:
· Spring event where an alumni meeting can also take place
· Assisting in costs for one rush trip each year
· Assisting in costs for one night during active’s formal recruitment
· Feed the Journey of Hope Team in Jackson each year
· Help offset costs with active academic dinner each year
If you have any ideas that you would like to mention, then please call or email me. We’ve just opened a list to begin brainstorming for more things we can do both for our alumni and active chapter. To put it simply, we are stepping it up. We have discussed several plans to get our active chapter more involved with the alumni, provide opportunities for alumni to meet more together, as well as several other plans. The most important thing; however, is that we need your participation. If you are unable to attend, but would like to give your opinion on one or more of these items, as well as cast a vote while not present, please contact me so that we can get everyone involved. I hope to see you all on October 21st, so that your discussions and votes can contribute to the next years of our alumni chapter.
In Brotherhood,
Marks McWhorter
