Frequently Asked Questions
How much are annual Alumni Chapter dues?
$25 for First Year Members or New Graduates
$50 for Members two years removed from graduation
$75 for Members three years removed from graduation
$100 for Members four or more years removed from graduation
What are my alumni chapter dues used for?
The dollars raised each year from the membership drive will be used to support the ongoing expenses involved in the operation of the Theta Alpha Alumni Chapter. Specifically, the dues collected will fund all Alumni Chapter events, such as a Spring Event and the Fall Homecoming Event. Dues will also aid in the creation and ongoing expense of hosting a Theta Alpha Alumni Chapter website, paying annual alumni chapter dues to the National Fraternity, bank fees, and other miscellaneous charges associated with the alumni chapter's normal operations, such as printing costs, mailing costs, etc. Additionally, Alumni Chapter dues will help offset the costs incurred to Alumni Chapter officers who attend national functions, such as Midyear and Supreme Chapter. Finally, some Alumni Chapter dues may eventually be used to help with philanthropic goals of interest to the Alumni Chapter such as Housing, Scholarships and Push America.
What do I receive in return for my annual contribution?
While every alumnus of Theta Alpha is, by default, a member of the Theta Alpha Alumni Chapter, financial support from the membership is necessary to maintain a functional, viable alumni organization. In return for their support, members of the Alumni Chapter who pay annual dues will be listed in monthly e-mails on the Alumni Chapter listserv, and in Alumni Newsletters and the Alumni Chapter's website once it's created. Paying members will also be recognized at all Alumni Chapter events.
Are all alumni invited to attend meetings and Alumni Chapter social events?
Yes. The Alumni Chapter believes it is important to reach out to all Theta Alpha Alumni. Therefore, all alumni members in good standing with the Undergraduate Chapter and the National Fraternity are invited to all Alumni Chapter meetings and events. Also, all alumni are eligible for inclusion on the Alumni Chapter's communications. We are currently working to get updated e-mail addresses for alumni members.
Are my Alumni Chapter dues tax deductible?
No. The Alumni Chapter is recognized as a 501c(7) organization which according to tax regulations does not provide charitable benefit, but social benefit, to it's financial supporters.
Why are dues set at this amount?
When compared to the costs associated with membership in the Undergraduate Chapter, we believe Alumni Chapter dues present an affordable avenue to allow alumni to continue to support the fraternity, both locally and nationally. In fact, dues money from alumni will support all three entities – the Undergraduate Chapter, the Alumni Chapter, and the National Fraternity. The Theta Alpha Alumni Chapter dues structure is modeled after other similar organizations, whereby a premium is set on participation, not necessarily total dollars raised. This IS NOT part of our capital campaign for a Fraternity House, but an opportunity to help support the ongoing efforts of the Theta Alpha Alumni.
Will I receive a regular financial statements and other business documents from the Alumni Chapter?
Yes. The Alumni Exec will e-mail periodically updates and communication pieces, including a record of financials, to all members. Additionally, each Alumni Executive Officer will present a report at each Alumni Chapter meeting during Homecoming.
